| OKAUKUEJO | Area: Etosha National Park and Surrounds - Namibia |
| Type: Safari Camp | |
| Etosha National Park is one of the major sanctuaries for a variety of animal species in Africa. The wide-open spaces and abundant wildlife make a visit to the park an unforgettable experience. Situated on the western side of Etosha National Park, Okaukuejo is one of three Rest Camps and is characterised by its thatched rondavels. It is Etoshas longest established Rest Camp and the main administrative centre and headquarters of the Etosha Ecological Institute, where research and nature conservation management for Etosha is conducted. The special attraction of Okaukuejo is the illuminated water hole just outside the perimeter of the camp where animals may be viewed without the limitations imposed by a vehicle. Elephant enthusiasts can have their fill as herds of, more than forty, at times, come to drink. There are a variety of accommodations and public facilities include a shop, filling station, swimming pool and restaurant. Rest Camps must be reached before sunset and may only be left after sunrise. Park fees must be paid at Okaukuejo before proceeding through the park. | |
