Day 01 - 03: Phinda Forest Lodge
On arrival at O.R. Tambo International Airport you will be met and assisted to the check in counter for your scheduled charter to Phinda Private Game Reserve.
On your arrival at the Phinda Private Game Reserve, you will be met by a representative from Phinda Forest Lodge who will then transfer you to the lodge in an open 4x4 safari vehicle. Depending on your arrival time, you will be in time for some refreshments followed by your first game drive.
Face-to-face with lions and rhino, up close to a Whale Shark or battling sailfish, that's the Phinda experience, one of the most exciting safari destinations in Africa. Located between the azure waters of the Indian Ocean and the lush waterways of the World Heritage Greater Saint Lucia Wetland Park, Phinda's 17 500 hectares span seven unique habitats.
Spend two nights at Phinda Forest Lodge. Accommodation is in a suite. Your stay is on a fully inclusive basis (including: three meals daily, with one night private room dinner, soft drinks, house wines, local branded spirits and beers, teas and coffees, two game drives daily in open safari vehicles, refreshments on game drives, one hour nature walks (subject to availability) and accompanied by experienced and armed trackers, laundry and emergency medical evacuation insurance).
Day 03 - 05: Isibindi Zulu Lodge
Today you will check out of Phinda Forest Lodge and you will be collected for your private road transfer to the Isibindi Zulu Lodge. Located in the Private Isibindi Eco-Game Reserve in the heart of the Anglo-Zulu battlefields.
This 12 bed luxury lodge is a stone's throw away from the historically momentous Anglo-Zulu battlefields of Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana where Zulu and British clashed in a devastating battle which had enormous consequences for the Zulu people. The lodge also offers a choice of authentic Zulu cultural experiences. The lodge is a peaceful bushveld retreat which also offers a host of activities for guests wanting to experience a combination of luxurious accommodation, game viewing, battlefields and Zulu cultural experiences. The beehive shape suites offer panoramic views of the game reserve and its diverse habitats ranging from montane grassland to riverine forests.
Spend two nights at Isibindi Zulu Lodge. Accommodation is in a Suite. Your stay is on a fully inclusive basis (including: three meals daily, one night Zulu Boma Dinner, teas & coffees, one daily game activity (game drive or walk) and one Battlefield Tour).
Day 04: The Battlefields
The battlefield tour starts at approximately 08h30. Head for Isandlwana, where the greatest defeat in British colonial history took place. Your historian describes the dramatic events of Isandlwana and surrounding area. After lunch, travel to Rorke's Drift where a picnic lunch is enjoyed. The events of Rorke's Drift (the battle proceeded from Isandlwana to Rorke's Drift later in the day) are described, as well as a short tour of the museum. At Rorke's Drift the men are rewarded for their bravery with no less than 11 Victoria Crosses, the most number of Victoria Crosses ever to be one in a single battle. As the dramatic events of the day unfold, guests begin to envisage the tragedy and the bravery of these extraordinary battles that took place in this remote corner of Zululand. Return to the lodge at approximately 16h00.
Day 05: Departure
Today you will be transferred back to Phinda Private Game Reserve, in time for your scheduled charter flight to O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg.
