| Larger than France, Austria, Switzerland and Hungary combined, Zambia sprawls across 750 000 square kilometres in central Southern Africa. Completely landlocked by Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zaire and Angola, the country consists mainly of a kidney-shamed plateau about 1 300m above sea level that descends gently in the south towards the Zambezi River. Here the cauldron of white water water known as Mosi-oa-Tunya - 'the Smoke that Thunders' - tumbles over the Victoria Falls as the mighty Zambezi sloughs through the African bush on its way to Lake Kariba. | For map... click here

| ACCOMMODATION Accommodation in Zambia covers the full range from budget to luxurious. Top hotels have high standards. Some game lodges are superb, comparable with those in other African countries. Back to top BEST TIME TO GO CLIMATE There are three seasons:
the cool, dry winter season from May to September, the hot, dry season in October and
November and the hotter, rainy season between December and April. In the rainy season it
is often impossible to travel in many areas of the country especially in national parks
where untarred roads become impassable even to four-wheel-drive vehicles. In winter nights
are cold. October is known as suicide month in the Zambezi and Luangwa valleys where it is
very hot and dry. CLOTHING VERY IMPORTANT :
if you are going on safari, remember that packing space is limited on all modes of safari
transport so you will need to restrict your luggage to 10-12kg (packed in a soft bag) plus
a reasonable amount of camera equipment. CREDIT

for Disease Control INSURANCE If you are coming on safari with Afro Ventures, you will automatically be covered by their Emergency Evacuation Insurance, underwritten by Europe Assistance. This guarantees all reasonable, practical assistance in obtaining primary and/or emergency medical services for an insured person who suffers illness or injury. Please note that this is an evacuation insurance only and does not replace the normal travel insurance which you must purchase. LANGUAGES MALARIA NATIONAL PARKS & TOURIST ATTRACTIONS PHOTOGRAPHY For game and bird
photography a telephoto lens of between 200 and 300mm is strongly recommended. Larger
lenses which require a tripod are generally impractical for game photography from
vehicles, as are double lens reflex cameras. A lens hood and ultra violet filter are
advisable and a dust cover (plastic bag) is essential. Remember to bring spare batteries
for your camera as these are seldom available on safari. Binoculars are invaluable for
bird and game viewing. ROAD
