What method of transportation is recommended? Establishments are accessible by road transfer or light aircraft. Afro
Ventures can pre-book and package all of your regional/internal flights
and transfers. We can provide you with all the options available: charter
flight, private 4x4 transfers, road and rail travel. Can I self-drive to my safari destination? You may be able to self-drive, depending on your destination. Afro Ventures will advise whether this is recommended and, if so, provide you with maps, route advice and necessary documentation. |

What is the accommodation type? The accommodation type we offer varies from hotels and inns to luxury
lodges, B&Bs and tented camps. We offer cottages, suites, chalets, rondavels
and tents. What is the recommended length of stay? The recommended minimum length of stay at each establishment is two nights.
The maximum length is totally up to you. Can I go on a camping safari? Yes. Afro Ventures has its roots in specialised camping safaris and offers exceptional experiences for groups of between seven and ten travellers. Individuals may join these trips. Please ask for our Africa Under Canvas brochure.

What kind of activities can I expect? When you come on safari to Africa, you can be close-up to a pride of lion one moment and snorkelling off a reef the next. Activities to choose from include morning, afternoon and evening game drives, interpretive walks with skilled guides, excursions to archaeological sites, stargazing, bird-watching, fishing, picnics, water sports, hot-air balloon safaris, golfing excursions, lectures, helicopter and light aircraft rides and community visits.

Is there an upper and lower age limit ? Upper age limits for scheduled safaris will be specified by Afro Ventures. We may allow exceptions subject to a fitness report signed by a medical practitioner. Children between 12 and 18 are accepted on scheduled safaris if they are accompanied by an adult relative. However, Afro Ventures can design private tailor-make safaris for families of all ages.

Is there information in brochures on the establishments you offer? Yes. A full colour brochure on our Safaris and Tours is available. Two hard cover, illustrated books on CCAfrica lodges are available. The CCAfrica Ecological Journal 2000 is a holistic diary of wildlife observations from around our lodges and camps. CCAfrica's free monthly wildlife e-zine, WildWatch runs articles on bird-watching, photography, recent wildlife sightings, reviews of nature books, wildlife web links plus an interactive questions and answers section.

Are children welcome? Young children are generally welcome. However, certain lodges do not
permit children under 12 (such as CCAfrica's Londolozi Tree Camp, Ngorongoro
Tree Camp and Phinda Rock Lodge). Some establishments, hotels and destinations
offer more for the enjoyment of children than others. Where can children sleep? An extra bed can sometimes be placed for a child sharing their parent's tent/room, but triples are not always allowed.

What kind of clothing should I bring? Dress code is comfortable, safari casual. Please note that bright colours are not suitable for game viewing. Remember bathing suits and hats. Game drives are conducted early morning and late afternoon (some at night), when it can be quite cold, especially in winter - jumpers or jackets are recommended.

Which African countries can I travel to with your company? South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania (including Zanzibar), Kenya and Moçambique. Afro Ventures has support staff based in all their countries of operation. Where are the CCAfrica lodges and camps located? CCAfrica's has 25 first-class luxury lodges and camps in six countries - South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania (including off Zanzibar) and Kenya.

What style of food is available? If you are staying at a CCAfrica lodge or camp, you will enjoy Pan-African cuisine. The meals are a unique blend of traditional and ethnic African recipes and cooking methods using the freshest ingredients. Spices and famed African aromas enhance the dishes. A variety of international cuisine is served at other establishments throughout the continent.

What do I need to bring? Africa is generally fairly casual, particularly safari destinations, where comfort is most important. Essentials are camera equipment, double the amount of film you think you will need, binoculars, hat, sun cream, walking shoes, cool but long-sleeved shirts and trousers, shorts, warm jacket and swimwear. Some city establishments as well as a few traditional hotels such as the Victoria Falls Hotel may require a jacket and tie to be worn in their à la carte restaurants. If you are on prescription medication, please ensure you have an adequate supply to last the duration of your stay and a copy of your prescription(s).

We will gladly design specific golfing itineraries or arrange golf as a component of a broader itinerary, giving all the relevant advice and information on courses available. How does CCAfrica promote ecotourism? The CCAfrica
Foundation is a non-profit organisation that acts as a catalyst for
integrating the development of rural communities neighbouring CCAfrica
lodges. The aim is to develop local communities, maintain biodiversity
and sustain the viability of ecotourism. Projects include building classrooms
and libraries, clinics and computer centres.

How much luggage can I take? Itineraries including charter flights or certain overland transfers require luggage to be limited to 10kg in a soft bag with a reasonable hand baggage allowance for camera equipment and personals. Clients travelling with additional luggage need to make arrangements in advance for this to be forwarded at a charge that must be paid locally.

What medical precautions are necessary? As vaccination requirements change from time to time, we suggest you consult your local doctor or health department for prophylactics and the latest health precautions. Some countries require advance inoculations (and certificates thereof) - Afro Ventures will advise you of these. All CCAfrica lodges have qualified emergency first-aid staff members. Malaria is present in many parts of Africa - see your doctor about the appropriate anti-malarials necessary. If you are on prescription medication, please ensure you have an adequate supply to last the duration of your stay and a copy of your prescription(s). What is the situation with emergency medical cover & travel insurance? Afro Ventures includes emergency medical evacuation insurance in all itineraries (except South Africa), underwritten by Europ Assistance. This guarantees all reasonable, practical assistance in obtaining primary and/or emergency medical services for an insured person who suffers illness or injury. Please note that this is an evacuation insurance only and does not replace the normal travel insurance which you must purchase.

What are the various responsibilities of Conservation Corporation Africa, Afro Ventures and Into Africa? Conservation Corporation Africa, Afro Ventures and Into Africa have merged to form one company called CCAfrica. Conservation Corporation Africa runs 25 top of the range safari lodges and camps in six Southern African countries, Afro Ventures is the expert tour operating division for the CCAfrica lodges as well as a large variety of other properties and services in our areas of operation. The Into Africa arm handles incentives, groups, destination management and conferences.

How do I pay for an Afro Ventures tour? Payment may be made in the form of a bank draft or by telegraphic transfer. A 10% deposit needs to be remitted together with acceptance of our offer. Payment should be made in South African rand unless a US$ amount is stipulated. Full balance of payment needs to reach us 30 days prior to commencement of services. Are credit cards accepted at the establishments to pay for extras? Most establishments accept credit cards. All CCAfrica lodges accept Visa and MasterCard. In addition, certain CCAfrica lodges accept American Express and Diners Card.

What is the background of the CCAfrica trackers, rangers and guides? Afro Ventures guides and CCAfrica rangers are renowned for their professionalism and heartfelt enthusiasm for this continent and their field of work. CCAfrica employs over 200 full-time rangers, guides and trackers in six countries across Africa. Some of them lack formal education but possess rich knowledge and skills that are not easily taught. Should you require specialist guides, Afro Ventures will assign a suitably qualified guide or source a specialist if requested in advance.

What security precautions should I take? Ensure that you carry a record of the numbers of your passport, airline tickets and traveller's cheques. These should be kept in a safe place. Never leave baggage or personal items unattended, especially at airports. Please note expensive jewellery should not be taken on safari.

What are the passport and visa requirements for travel to Africa? Travellers need to ensure their passports are valid for at least six months after the time of travel. Visas may be required prior to departure. Afro Ventures can advise you of the documentation you require. Please ask your Consulate for up to date information.

When is the best time to view the great migration? The great migration occurs in Tanzania (Serengeti National Park) and Kenya (Masai Mara National Reserve) from about June until about October. The timing of the migration and its specific path may be unpredictable and varies according to the seasons, vegetation and condition of the animals. We can keep you informed of the general trends and current position of the main herds. Where can I find hands-on tips for wildlife and bird photography? CCAfrica's free wildlife e-zine, WildWatch, runs articles with useful tips on bird, plant and wildlife photography. This website can be found at www.wildwatch.com. |
